JEWELRY CARE

Utmost care has been taken in our jewelry purchases in regards to condition and wearability.

We keep in mind that how you wear your (new or old) jewelry daily will affect the condition and longevity of your piece. Regular cleaning and check ups are the best way to preserve your jewelry, as is knowing when to take your pieces off to protect their integrity and condition. Rings experience the most daily wear, so taking a moment to remove your ring for intense activities such as moving, gardening or lifting weights can greatly help keep them in wearable shape. We are happy to advise on tips and tricks for proper daily care of your individual piece at any time- and are always here to clean and check your jewelry.

See CONDITION CHECK & CLEANING to learn more about our complimentary services, and go to RESTORATION & REPAIR if you are in need of jewelry renovation.

HERE IS A QUICK AND EASY REFERENCE FOR AT-HOME CARE BETWEEN PROFESSIONAL CLEANINGS:

(Please remember to cover your drain if you are washing your jewel in a sink!)

HARD GEMSTONES

(Such as Diamonds, Sapphires, Rubies and Emeralds)

Soak in warm water and a gentle cleaning astringent such as simple green or windex. Brush gently with a soft toothbrush. Rinse and repeat.

SOFTER GEMS

(Such as Pearls, Opals and Turquoise)

These gemstones can vary in care, and the safest way to clean them at home is to run a gem cloth (a glasses cleaning cloth can work well too) lightly over your piece. To clean off dust, a damp cloth or even a quick dip in water is a option followed by a soft brush. Do not soak, or use any chemical cleaners.

CLOSED OR METAL BACKED JEWELRY

Many of the oldest and rarest jewels are set in mountings entirely backed in gold or silver foil. These should not get wet, as it will alter the color behind the stone and the overall condition/value. A gem cloth is fantastic for these jewels, and please call us for recommendations specific to your specialty jewel’s needs.

ANTIQUE SILVER

There is nothing more essential to a piece of antique or vintage silver than the historical patina that only time can give. We recommend that you run a silver polishing cloth over your silver jewelry to gently give the silver its luster without erasing the patina which gives antique silver remarkable qualities. Come in, and we would be happy to give you a tutorial on how to clean your vintage silver.
